The challenge
Ülemiste, Estonia’s largest shopping mall, undertook a major renovation that was designed to transform a simple shopping centre into a premier visitor destination. Following a presentation we gave at an International Council of Shopping Centres seminar, owners Linstow brought us in to ensure that the centre’s sound matched the superb new architecture.
The solution
A full sound audit found that loud music and intrusive announcements were damaging customer experience, and revealed a great opportunity to reflect the exciting visual makeover with carefully designed sound. We created a range of inspiring, relaxing generative soundscapes for various spaces and occupancy levels, and consulted on the installation of a custom sound system that sounds, and looks, superb. We embedded our installation with on-site training for both staff and tenants. Shortly after installation, Ülemiste won ‘best refurbishment’ at the ICSC European Shopping Centre Awards.
