Airports are stressful places. Our task was to reduce that stress by using sound using a limited number of PA loudspeakers in common areas such as walkways and departure lounges.
We designed and installed two generative soundscape – one for use in the day, and one for night – which were played at an ambient level – barely perceptible, and in many cases not consciously noticed by passengers.
Customers were almost universally positive, once they noticed the sound. A three month trial found that sales in the main duty-free shop rose by 10% when the soundscape was playing.
